I am a physical therapist, mom of 2 awesome boys, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. I’m definitely your “type A” who likes to be in control, and I always have lots of balls in the air. I thrive when I am active and creating new things, planning for events and watching them play out and seeing others enjoy the result of my effort. I have been struggling with gradually declining energy and assorted health issues for several years. Mostly not severe enough to land you in the ER (except the episode that cost me a gallbladder), but the cumulative effect is now definitely enough to put my quality of life in the category that I consider unacceptable for me.
Doctors haven’t been able to tell me what’s wrong, and the “standard” health advice doesn’t seem to work for me. I have found that many of my symptoms are related to diet, and the more processed and grain based foods I eat, the worse I feel. I have a strong family history for celiac disease, and just finished the testing process. Gluten-free is the way I need to be.
I created this site as a place to record my journey as I search for the answers for optimal health for me, and to keep me honest. (Yes that’s all of you that I gave this web address to…if I told you it’s here, you’re supposed to be keeping me on the straight and narrow!)
My science brain is also watching to see what kinds of effects removing the crap from my diet might have on my physical function. That’s why I named it Gluten Free PT. I can’ split out that part of my brain from everything else! (My PT friends will understand…it’s the part of you that cringes while you watch shuffling gait and sloppy cane walking at the mall while you’re supposed to be Christmas shopping!). I’m also learning about designing a web page at the same time (read bonus – never know when that kind of skill will come in handy).
For starters, I’m organizing posts and content by category. If you want to read a consistent thread of thought, click on the category you’re interested in. If you obtain a login from wordpress.com (free and you don’t have to start a blog), you can leave comments and encouragement (hint, hint).
Welcome to the Gluten Free PT!
